WELCOME TO MOMENTUM – Winter / Spring 2023
Momentum is defined as the strength or force that allows something to continue or to grow stronger or faster as time passes. It is our desire to help you continue and grow in your faith. We are excited to offer a variety of classes that cover important topics. You will find many opportunities to learn to grow in your Christian walk, strengthen your faith, and share your hope in Jesus Christ. We look forward to giving you the tools necessary to get you started! Please take a minute to look over classes offered and complete the registration form. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. – 2 Timothy 2:15

THE RACE
At Northside, we call our spiritual development process “THE RACE.” Hebrews 12:1 tells us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Paul said, “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Unfortunately, many people start the race strong but never finish, either getting discouraged or hindered by the sins that easily trip us up. Our desire is that each member crosses the finish line a winner!

If you’ve ever run, you’ve probably discovered that it is more enjoyable and much easier when you are running with someone else. God never intended us to run alone—that’s the purpose of the church. In this class, we will learn about four things that unite us as we “run” together—Our Salvation Story, Our Mission/Vision/Strategy, Our Beliefs and Values, and Our Commitments. Because Northside is made up of people from many different backgrounds, this experience is intended to clearly explain who we are, what we believe, and how to get connected. Childcare (ages 11 and under) will be provided by reservation only. Completion of this class is required for membership.

2020 has been quite a year for everyone! Many have found themselves facing unexpected illness, financial hardships and our world has never looked quite this uncertain. But, we know that God’s Word, the Holy Bible, is certain and is TRUTH! Pastor Steve will share how to best study your Bible – you will learn how to unlock truths of the Bible and how to apply these truths to your life.
Running a race requires discipline. Our enthusiasm will help us get started but it won’t take us across the finish line. The same is true in the Christian life. That’s why the Bible says, “Take the time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit.” In this class you learn the spiritual disciplines that are critical to your success in “The Race” God has called us all to run. Elijah: Faith and Fire
by Priscilla Shirer
The Ties of Love Ladies Bible Study Group
Teacher: Elizabeth Gressette
Dates: Tuesdays, January 24, February 7, 21, March 7, 21, April 4, 18
Time: 4:30 – 6:30 PM

Old Testament heroes are best known for their most celebrated moments: Moses dividing the Red Sea; David slaying Goliath; Gideon routing an insurmountable army; Joshua marching around the defiant walls of Jericho.
And Elijah—calling down fire on Mount Carmel.
Blinded by the remarkable narratives of our biblical heroes, we can forget they each had a backstory—months and years of development, even difficulty, which fortified their spiritual muscle and prepared them for the tasks that made their lives unforgettable.
Every serious believer longs to summon up the kind of boldness and faith that can stand firm on Mount Carmel and pray down heaven into impossible situations. Yet few are willing to go through the process required to get them there. Strength of faith, character, and boldness can only be shaped in the hidden fires of silence, sameness, solitude, and adversity. Those who patiently wait on God in the darkness emerge with their holy loyalty cemented, their courage emblazoned, and their confident belief in Him set afire.
Join Priscilla Shirer on this 7-session journey through the life and times of the prophet Elijah to discover how the fire on Mount Carmel was forged in the valley of famine. And how the emboldened, fiery faith you desire is being fashioned by God in your life right now. Please contact Elizabeth Gressette for more information at 803-873-5674, egressette@bellsouth.net.

People of the Promise: Kingdom Divided
Group: Bible Study Fellowship
Dates: Tuesdays, Resumes January 10
Time: 6:30 – 8:00 PM
Cost: None, donations only
Good and evil kings. Passionate prophets. Prophecies that shape our modern age. The Old Testament is full of theologically rich books that both recount and shape history. They also set the stage for the long-awaited Messiah, containing more than 300 prophecies covering His birth, life, death, and resurrection.
People of the Promise: Kingdom Divided will unpack a fascinating period in Israel’s history across 15 books, from its split into two nations, through dozens of kings and prophets and ultimately to the heartbreaking exile into Babylon.
Jesus loved the Old Testament. And you will too.
Explore 15 of the books Jesus deeply loved in community, discussing questions around the goodness of God amidst calamity, mercy, ultimate allegiance, judgment, and salvation. Join others in finding answers and how they apply to modern life.
The fourfold method of BSF includes personal study questions, discussion in a small group, a lecture time and printed notes each week. WEDNESDAYS
HOUSE OF PRAYER
When: Wednesdays (Resumes On January 11)
Time: 6:00 – 6:30 PM
Location: Auditorium
Today there is a desperate need for men and women of God who know how to pray: People who will not be satisfied with what they can accomplish in their power. Instead, they long to see the power and the glory of the Living God invade the Church with supernatural displays of His Deity! Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” The phrase house of prayer is from Isaiah 56:7, where it is used twice: “These [foreigners] I will bring to My holy mountain and give them joy in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
The church in Acts was birthed out of a prayer meeting. The great Revivals in America were begun with prayer! It is time for Christ-followers to fall on their knees and pray to the One who can change our country, our community, our church, our families, and our very lives through the power of the Holy Spirit.
It is clear that the place where believers worship will be a place of prayer. It is our desire that Northside will be known as a HOUSE OF PRAYER. Join Pastor Rocky as we gather for a time of prayer and worship. A time where we humble ourselves and ask our Heavenly Father to show us mercy and to anoint our lives and our church with His power! Asking for revival in our world and lifting needs in our church to the Lord. Simply come, no registration is needed.
